Thank you for asking how you can help.
There are small things that we can do to
help.
The realities:
Imagine the grueling rollercoaster of Jesses
rush to hospital, his diagnosis,
the surgeries and treatments.
5 weeks in hospital split Jesses family
in half. Jesse, Mom and Dad lived downtown at Toronto at Sick
Kids Hospital. The other half stayed at home in Bolton.
Through the harsh winter, Jesse and his
family commuted 2-4 days a week for chemo. Imagine the brutal
realities of chemo. Add 11/2 to 3 hour trips each way plus
some overnight hotel stays.
April/ May: bone marrow transplant
with Jesse in isolation, Mom & Dad rented a downtown apartment
and siblings shuttled back and forth.
June: Jesse and family moved into
a more "immunity and blind baby friendly" home.
Now: more chemo and the fight to
keep Jesse healing.
Jesse thrives on his weekly music therapy
sessions essential to his healing, well-being and recovery
Jesses music therapy:
- helps Jesse explore how to express his
emotions and release the obvious stress and anxiety from
frequent and disturbing medical treatments
(When upset, Jesse will violently bang his head. With music
therapy Jesse is encouraged to bang the drums when hes
mad and to have fun playing the guitar when hes happy)
- helps Jesse develop his tactile and other
sensory skills. This can be especially challenging for a
visually impaired child
- helps Jesse develop a routine with musical
rather than medical highlights
Future: Special education? More treatments?
