Jesse's Scissors-in-Motion

Moving on from Jesse’s Scissors-in-Motion. The fifth and final annual hair cut-a-thon was held on Sunday 21, October 2007. This valued fundraiser, in support of the Music Therapy in Palliative Care Program at Toronto’s Sick Children’s Hospital, helped to bring music therapy to many critically ill children. The Canadian Guild of Hair Design Professionals, CanRad and many other generous volunteers plus supporters were integral to this success.

The Hospital for Sick Children Palliative Care Program is designed to help children move from life to death with peace and dignity, comforted by their families and caregivers. Trained music therapists are essential to this program. Our fundraising efforts have always been directed towards the goal of covering the cost of as many music therapy sessions as possible to bring comfort to those children whose cure was uncertain or even unlikely.

Over the years, Jesse’s Scissors-in-Motion cut-a-thon raised $20,000!

This feat represents a great achievement for which the volunteers and supporters should indeed be proud. Certainly, our combined efforts have shined each year and the rewards have been truly lasting.

With mixed emotion we signal the end of Jesse’s Scissors-in-Motion. After much dialogue, the Jesse’s Foundation for Music and Dance Therapy Board of Directors has been forced to acknowledge the event places considerably labour-intense demands upon our relatively small organization. We are comforted in knowing that the hospital program is better positioned to sustain and continue operating than when we were called upon to help over 5 years ago. And we are excited to move forward with new initiatives to help bring music and dance therapy to children in need.

In the words of Kahil Gibran “Work is love made visible.” Thank you and congratulations to all for your impressive achievements over five years with Jesse’s Scissors-in-Motion.
